Homage to GEICO's ads

I'm posting for 60 days straight, leading up to my early December birthday, and I'm making the time to write on behalf of slain UCC Professor and aspiring novelist, Larry Levine.

I'm reminded every 9th Wednesday or so of the fantastic Camel - GEICO - Hump Day spot created by the ad wizards of Richmond, Virginia, The Martin Agency. They are responsible for many of the brand's innovative ads over the years - the gecko, the caveman, etc. What impresses me most is GEICO's willingness to invest in multiple, varied campaigns simultaneously, and Martin's ability to deliver such diverse spots with humor and strong, quick storytelling. If you haven't seen Hump Day or some of the others I'm calling out, sit back and enjoy. Uh oh! Guess what day it is? A camel distracts people working in the office because it's a hump day. Folks who save after switching to GEICO are happier than a camel on Wednesday. Woot, woot!

One note in closing, which I'm not sure what to do with: despite loving these commercials and campaigns, I'm with a GEICO competitor and have been since I was 16. Even though I don't have an especially strong relationship with my agent, I've NEVER visited geico.com for a comparison quote. Never taken the 15 minutes ...

I'm assuming that inertia is why GEICO spends over $1B annually on these spots. They've almost got me as a customer but not quite yet. I'll just queue up another ad instead. Or 20.
