I'm posting for 60 days straight, leading up to my early December birthday, and I'm making the time to write on behalf of slain UCC Professor and aspiring novelist, Larry Levine. And now we have CSU Long Beach design student Nohemi Gonzalez, gunned down in Paris.
Today started early with a 5:30 am flight, which meant leaving the house at 3:45. Which is not really a time I recommend being awake - unless maybe sex or alcohol are involved. Then, just maybe.
Through the wonder of global time zones and a smartphone app, I received a text from my daughter while standing in a daze just after being violated by an airport body scanner. She sent the note from Europe where she's studying this semester. And the text was the most heart felt, gracious appreciation of my time and effort this past decade as primary parent and for the opportunity to study abroad.
Which made the early hour and lack of sleep melt away into a cocoon of feel good Thanksgiving cheer.
Several hours and a plane flight later, I received a surprise text from someone who I'd had a falling out with. So I in turn gave it forward by sending an ex a positive Happy Thanksgiving text.
All of which made for an unexpected fulfilling and rich Thanksgiving. And I'm hoping yours was too.
